McDonnell Douglas moved into first place last year as the United States biggest defence contractor, ousting the 1983 leader, General Dynamics, the Pentagon said. It said McDonnell Douglas sales were SUS 7.7 billion, up from SUS6.I billion in 1983, when it ranked second. The St Louis firm makes Eagle and Hornet jet fighters and missiles. In second place last year, with sales of $6.2 billion, was Rockwell International, which makes the Bl bomber, missiles and electronic systems.
