New Tasman vessel
The Shipping Corporation has bought a second and larger ship, the 13,880-ton Ulunga, to ply on the Tasman service it runs jointly with the Australian National Line.
The ship has been bought
from German owners, and has a capacity of about 550 20ft containers, compared with the 350-container capacity of the other vessel in service, the New Zealand Trader.
The Ulunga was built in 1977 and has run between Europe and the Middle East. She will be renamed
and delivered to enter the Tasman service early in August. The Australian National Line has also bought a vessel for the service. It will be named the Australian Trader and will enter the service during May to replace the Australian Endeavour.
