Five Canterbury members of Parliament will visit the Port of Lyttelton on Friday afternoon.
The members will be taken on a two-hour tour of the port’s facilities, including the container terminal, inner harbour, yacht moorings, and bulk-loading facilities. A discussion and refreshments will follow at the Lyttelton Harbour Board’s Lyttelton office. The visiting members are Mrs Ann Hercus (Lab., Lyttelton), Miss Ruth Richardson (Nat.. Selwyn), Mrs Whetu Tirakatene-Sullivan (Lab., Southern Maori), Mr Jim Anderton, (Lab., Sydenham), and Mrs Mary Batchelor, (Lab., Avon). They will be accompanied by the board’s chairman, Mr George Wright, and senior board officials. The board’s acting general manager, Mr P. G. Morgan, said that the purpose of the visit was to keep local members of Parliament in touch with the port and its needs. The visit was usually arranged annually, he said.
