Addington market

Good competition from local butchers and freezing companies led to a rise in prime beef prices at the Addington market yesterday, the first significant lift in cattle values for several weeks. The price of heavy butchers’ lambs and good quality old ewes remained steady, but big yardings forced down the price of light stock. In the pig market, demand picked up for good quality prime and store pigs. Prime lambs An oversupply of light lambs led to a decline of $1.50 to $2 in the value of freezer-type stock. The yarding of 1920 lambs contained far too many lightweight lambs for the limited buying power. Heavier butcher-quality lambs continued to sell well, however, most prices remaining fully firm with last week's level.

Several pens of heavy lambs sold at more than $3l.
