Bill of Rights
Sir,—Why does the Minister of Justice, Mr Palmer, get so upset every time he is challenged on the inclusion of Article 20 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights into the proposed New Zealand Bill of Rights? (“The Press” April 9). To use the excuse that the inclusion of Article 20 would cause a large amount of existing legislation to become unconstitutional is irrelevant. It simply shows how warped our legislation has become. Any organisation that exists by compulsion of
support is opiating from a false position. The abour Government is committed > bring back compulsory unioitm because it received financit support from the Federation of hbour during our last election. Tat support will cease if voluntary union membership continues, tiy Government that legislates compulsion of association is vifating a very basic freedom pribiple, which in he long term willnot only be a detriment to the ctnens of that ountry, but will inexibbly lead to te downfall of that Gyemment.— Yurs, etc., ' ’ \ M. W. SHEPHERD. \pril 13, 1985. 1
