Dairy aid effort recognised
Dairy farmers have been thanked by Federated Farmers for the amount they have given towards Operation Hope, to help starving people in Africa. Mr Bruce Tollich, chairman of the federation’s dairy section, said dairy farmers had contributed five times as much as the average family in New Zealand.
Mr Tollich said he regretted New Zealanders could not have raised more to buy heavily discounted buttermilk powder made available by the Dairy Board, which farmers would have subsidised by $200,000.
“All other families in New Zealand need only give another 25 cents to still make this aid possible,” he said.
