Rugby tour

Sir,—lt has always brought a sense of pride to see the distinguished colours of the All Blacks as they file out on to the rugby field, a splendid example of New Zealand manhood, and playing a man’s game. Particularly refreshing is the knowledge that the game has no political, religious or racial inhibitions; but now its unadulterated amateur image could be tarnished with the tawdry expediences and diplomatic intrigues of politics. Worse, some people, with no connection to rugby, wish to use the sport as a political sanction against a foreign country. These torch-

carriers seek to demonstrate against the dictatorship of another country by restricting the freedoms within their own. The All Blacks are ambassadors of what, hopefully, is still a democratic New Zealand. The tour must go on.— Yours, etc., R. B. OLAUSEN. March 28, 1985.
