Narrow victory
NZPA-AAP Perth A brilliant 40-lap • dash resulting in a flag-to-flag victory in round four of the 1985 Australian Touring Car championship at Wanneroo Park Raceway yesterday has rocketed the Melbourne-based New Zealand BMW 635 driver, Jim Richards, to a convincing points lead in the series. Starting from the pole position Richards, and eventual runner-up, the Melbourne Com-
modore driver, Peter Brock, both angled side-by-side into the first comer. But it was the superior power of the Richards BMW in the newly categorised Group A class machine that allowed him to exit the comer in front of Brock and pull away to a handy lead. Richards eventually won in 44min 24.215. Brock was 3.74 s behind him and Johnson a further 28.11 s behind.
