Dewes parole extended
PA Auckland Ministerial approval has been given to extend the special parole of the dying convicted rapist, Henare Dewes, so that he need not return to prison. The Minister of Justice, Mr Palmer, considered new medical reports on Mr - Dewes, who has cancer, be- > fore adding an extra three ; months to his six-month i temporary release. •
A spokesman for Mr Palmer said the decision was made about three , weeks ago. •
“It was made in the light. > of the medical evidence, first of all, and of course on humanitarian grounds,” he said. ,
Mr Dewes’s condition has deteriorated steadily since * he was released on parole , for the six-month period which would have expired , last month.
