Strike backing sought
PA Wellington Striking Wellington Hospital orderlies will attempt to gain national support for their action, according to the Hotel and Hospital Workers’ Union industrial officer, Mr John Ryall.
The strike has come after the sacking of an orderlies’ union delegate after conflict over arrangements for an
emergency stop-work meeting 11 days ago. Orderlies would travel to Christchurch and Wanganui today to put their case to other hospital domestic staff. Tomorrow others would go to Napier, Palmerston North, and Hamilton.
The union was seeking moral and financial support, Mr Ryall said today.
