Top sprinter returns positive swab
NZPA-AAP Brisbane The champion Queensland country galloper, Picnic in the Park, has returned a positive caffeine swab. His trainer, Malcolm Raabe, was told officially of the positive swab find on Friday afternoon when called to the Mackay Turf Club by the chief steward, Ken Griffin.
The positive swab was taken from Picnic in the Park after the gelding’s nineteenth straight win at
Mackay on February 16 when he equalled the Australian record shared by the champions, Gloaming and Desert Gold. He/ has since won two more races but Friday’s positive swab announcement puts his Australian record at risk.
Earlier last month, Raabe threatened to severe all ties with racing and sell his champion if rumours were true that his champion had returned a positive swab.
