Red Anchor for stud duty
NZPA-AAP . Sydney A sAut3 million (JNZ4.59 million) syndication deal has brought an end to the racing career of the champion three-year-old colt, Red Anchor.
A ■ prominent thoroughbred .owner, Sir Tristan Antico, confirmed yesterday that Baramul Stud and its associated companies, including Tristan Antico Thoroughbreds, Ltd, had purchased Red Anchor to stand at stud in the coming season.
The Sea Anchor colt will be syndicated into 42 shares, to be sold at sAust7s,ooo ($NZ114,750) each, including insurance costs, making his total stud value sAust3.ls million.
Baramul Stud, the home of the great Star Kingdom, was only recently purchased by Sir Tristan. Red Anchor is to stand as a foundation sire at the stud.
The stud and it* associated companies will retain 16 of the shares and Red Anchor’s former owners, Mr and Mrs John Gigante, Mr and Mrs John Symond and Mr Alan Hely, will hold 13 shares. Red Anchor was never out of the money in his 14 starts and amassed $Au5t779,970 in prizemoney.
He won nine times, including four group one victories. ■
The brilliant colt was unbeaten as a three-year-old with six wins, including the Victoria Derby, the Cox Plate and the Caulfield Guineas.
Red Anchor had been sent to the Camden spelling paddock early last month with a joint injury soon after winning the Apollo Stakes. Although his connections were assured Red Anchor would return to racing in the spring as good as ever, the risk was considered too great.
