Pianist chosen
Sharon Joy Vogan, of Christchurch, is the only New Zealander who will participate in the Sydney International Piano Competition later this year. She is one of 35 pianists from 22 countries selected to compete in the Sydney contest from July 12 to 27. All will compete in the first two stages of the competition. Twelve will be chosen to go on to the semifinals and six to the final. The final will include concerto performances with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Sir Charles Mackerras and Australian chamber orchestras and groups. Twelve international musicians and writers will make up the panel of jurors. All concerts will take place in the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Conservatorium.
