A.N.Z.U.S. editorials

Sir,—ln answer to those who consider New Zealand to be joining the ranks of the confused, unreliable, outcast countries (“The Press,” March 6), I quote from William Epstein, former director of the Disarmament Division of the United Nations: “The outlook for a comprehensive test ban and for non-proliferation seems bleak. It becomes increasingly evident that unless public opinion can be mobilised so that it can generate the requisite degree of political will on the part of Governments, the outlook for disarmament, for preventing nuclear war and for humanity will also be bleak.” In New Zealand we have mobilised public opinion, the Government has shown the political will and, cynical “Press” editorials aside, the future is looking decidedly less bleak.— Yours, etc., JOHN SNELGROVE, SUSAN SNELGROVE. March 8, 1985.
