Unread warning

Sir,—l am an Australian whose visit here has coincided with the nuclear debate. Like those whom Mr Lange has made proud to be citizens, I would be proud if Mr Hawke had made such a powerful public affirmation of sanity. New Zealanders should not shrink from the courage of a sane stand in an insane world. Today in the local (Akaroa) library I found Dr Helen Caldicott’s book “Nuclear Madness,” reprinted three times since 1978. Not one person had taken it out. Perhaps it is a new acquisition. Ignorance of the facts is our worst enemy in this debate. A respected international expert on nuclear issues (especially medical aspects), Dr Caldicott challenges us to shoulder the responsibility of finding out and taking action, as some brave nuclear scientists have done at the cost of their entire careers. Do not recite Reagan, my friends, listen to Lange. — Yours, etc. (Ms) BRONWYN DUNCAN. March 6, 1985.
