PA Wellington The New Zealand dollar closed still firmer at 5U50.4630 '6O on the foreignexchange market in Wellington yesterday, after opening in the morning at 1U50.4575/25. Dealers said there were people who could not afford to go short on the local unit. Dealers said the US dollar was consolidating market, closing in Wellington at 3.3909/25 marks after opening this morning at 3.3969/80. They said operators were now awaiting a push in the
dollar from either the central banks or the New York corporate market One dealer said the market would see a sell-off if the dollar goes below 3.38 marks. Sterling lost ground to close at 5U51.0685/95 after opening at SUSI.O7IO 25. In yen the L'_S. dollar remained almost unchanged. closing at 260.80/90 after opening at 260.70.80. Across the Tasman the Australian dollar lost ground to close at 5U50.6933 40. opening at 5U50.6940 50.
