Traffic patterns

Sir, — Your headline of March 7, “Big changes in inner-city traffic patterns ahead” is an understatement. In my opinion it should read “Chaos in inner-city traffic patterns ahead.” I have been following newspaper reports of discussions on the Parkroyal Hotel and the attempts to justify the drastic changes to Victoria Square, to say nothing of the chaos that will be caused to traffic movements to the northern areas. I have been waiting for someone in authority to come up with the simple, and to me, obvious answer. There is no need to close Victoria Street or mess about with Victoria Square. The hotel can still be built if it is absolutely necessary, by =traddling Victoria Street and leavmg a traffic tunnel where the traffic may still flow freely, as at present, thus saving the motorists much inconvenience and ratepayers a considerable sum. — Yours, etc., H. PRIfDEN. March 7, 1935.
