A.N.Z.U.S. Treaty

Sir, — “The Press” is to be congratulated for printing the text of the A.N.Z.U.S. Treaty so that we can form our own opinion about its relevance to today’s world, or lack of it. It is obvious from reading it that America has itself contravened the very spirit of the treaty. Whilst knowing the New Zealand Government’s policy on visits from nuclear capable craft, it insists on sending a ship, still refusing to confirm or deny its capabilities. This act must contravene article 111 by threatening New Zealand’s “territorial integrity and political independence.” — Yours, etc., LINDA S. CONSTABLE, • AUDIA S. CONSTABLE. February 6, 1985.
