Iran denial
Iran’s central bank has denied that it ordered curtailment of import letters of credit and said foreign-ex-change reserves were enough to meet all commitments. The statement followed reports by diplomats and bankers that the bank had circulated an internal memorandum ordering severe restrictions on letters of credit, apparently because of dangerously low foreign exchange reserves. One banker said that Iran was importing only food and armaments.
