Archery double for paraplegic
PA Dunedin Graeme Marett (OtagoSouthland) won the archery double for paraplegics when the seventeenth national disabled sports championships finished in Dunedin. Marett set national records
with totals of 979 in the FITA single and 1945 in the FITA double. Thirty-five national records were broken over the four days of the competition, 20 in the track and field, 11 in swimming and two each in weight-lifting and archery. In the weight-lifting, Shane Wilson, a cerebral palsy light heavyweight from Auckland, hoisted a creditable 130 kg to set a new mark in his division, while Geoffrey Palmer also broke the old record in the les autres light heavyweight with a lift of 95kg.
