No Whitcoulls move for two years?
Whitcoulls, Ltd, is unlikely to move its head office from Christchurch before 1987. Since Whitcoulls became a wholly owned subsidiary of Brierley Investments, Ltd, last year and was made a holding company for Brierley’s investments in printing, stationery, packaging and non newspaper publishing, it has been obvious that the Whitcoull’s head office is likelv to be moved to Auckland. There would be considerable advantages in being based where most of
the firm's customers live. It is believed that Whitcoulls is now advising recruits to headquarters staff that they may have to move north in a few years. Such a move would not affect more than 20 or 30 people: headquarters staff and key division managers and their immediate assistants.
The strong and longstanding Whitcoulls interests in South Island merchandising, printing, and packaging will almost certainly not be affected.
