New athletics track
PA Wellington Wellington’s Newtown Park athletics stadium could have a state of the art running track by March next year. Last week the Wellington athletics centre decided to resurface the existing track at the stadium with Rekortan, the surface used at the Los Angeles Olympics.
Five tenders were received for the resurfacing before Rekortan, which will be installed by a German contractor, was chosen. The new track is expected to cost about $875,000 of which ?100,000 will be paid by the Wellington centre. The remainder will be funded by the Wellington City Council.
