Parliamentary reporter The first Canterbury members of the University Grants Committee in 18 years were appointed yesterday by the Minister of Education, Mr Marshall. The new members are Miss J. M. Herbison, Chancellor of the University of Canterbury, who also becomes the first woman appointed to the Grants Committee, and Professor A. M. Alan - Danks completed his term of membership in 1966. Miss Herbison would resign as Chancellor before joining the committee, Mr Marshall said. She would succeed Mr W. H. Dawson, of Dunedin, as one of the four members of the Grants Committee not university teachers. Professor Kennedy was well known for his work in chemical engineering, Mr Marshall said and would succeed Professor David Hall, who would take up his appointment as chairman of the Grants Committee on December 1.
