Mr Moore names team

PA Wellington The Minister of Overseas Trade and Marketing, Mr Moore, yesterday named the team he would take with him on the first of his “go bush” week-end discussions on the long-term trade issues likely to affect New Zealand beyond the year 2900. The meeting will take place at the T.H.C. Tokaanu, near Taupo, this week-end. The team includes Professor Alan Rae, acting director of the Centre of Agriculture Policy Studies at Massey University; Dr M. H. Gold, of the political studies

dept, University of Otago; Mr lan Douglas, chairman of the Planning Council; Sir Frank Holmes, economist and former chairman of the Planning Council; two former Ministers of Overseas Trade, Messrs Brian Taiboys and Joe Walding; Mr Tom Clark, deputy chairman of Ceramco; Mr Michael Fay, a company director, Ms Fay Richwhite, from a merchant bank; Mr Bernard Knowles, general manager of the Dairy Board; Mr Stuart McMillan, of “The Press”; Mr Colin James, editor of the “National Business Review”; Mr J.W.H. Clark,

Secretary to the Treasury; and Mr Graham Ansell, Deputy Secretary of Foreign Affairs. Mr Moore said that the discussions would be as informal as possible with no set agenda.

“We want to review New Zealand’s basic objectives in trade against the background of the present and prospective scene,” he said.

The new G.A.T.T. round, questions of trade policies after C.E.R., and New Zealand’s stance towards the Pacific economies, were some of the topics that could be discussed.
