Debate on Jesus
Sir,—Not so long ago, in deference to the feelings of the small number of Muslims in New Zealand, the film, “Death of a Princess” was not shown on television. Is the larger number of Christians in New Zealand not to be afforded the same courtesy? The film “Jesus — the Evidence” is just as offensive to many Christians .as “Death of a Princess" to Muslims. — Yours, etc., H. MELVILLE. November 2, 1984. ■
Sir,—l thank and appreciate all the correspondents who have written expressing their views on the proposed film “Jesus—the Evidence.” It is said that a little
knowledge is a dangerous thing, but no knowledge on a particular subject is far worse, especially when expressed by those who think that seeing a film that suggests facts known to be untrue will provide that knowledge. The Bible teaches that only those who have the genuine love of God in their lives can be open to understand and have knowledge in spiritual matters. Corinthians i, 1-3. Would anyone allow a film to be shown about the person they love the most or hold in highest honour that would discredit them, and lead others astray? — Yours, etc., BRUCE HILLS. November 1, 1984.
[Correspondence on this subject is closed until after the film has been screened. — Editor.]
