Christmas lights at Riccarton unlikely
Coloured lights and flags will probably not be hung across Riccarton Road this Christmas. Poles erected during the town centre redevelopment would not be strong.enough' to hold the lights, said the Mayor, Mr Richard Harrington, at the Borough Council’s electricity committee meeting yesterday. The electrical engineer,
Mr I. R. Densem, said that the lights were still available, but some of the wiring was in poor repair. “It would be unwise to put any strain on the new poles. Lights can not be put up,” he said. The committee asked Mr Densem to see if • any decorations could be put up for the Christmas and New Year period.
