Ministry to study L.P.G. car fatality

PA Wellington The Ministry of Transport will make a detailed investigation of what is believed to be New Zealand’s first fatal fire involving an L.P.G. or C.N.G.-powered car. As part of police investigations, Ministry officers will study the burnt-out wreckage of a liquefied petroleum gas-powered car in which a woman was burnt to death after a headon collision near Te Awamutu early on Saturday. The Minstry’s chief auto-

motive engineer, Mr Robert Abram, said that the Ministry would take special Interest because it appeared to be the first vehicle fire where L.P.G. fuel itself was involved. An intense fireball prevented rescuers from reaching Robyn Marie Bell, aged 32, who was trapped in the rear seat of the car after the accident at 12.15 a.m. in the Waikato township of Kihikihi. However, they were able to rescue her sister, Mrs Victoria. Mylchreest, from the blazing car.
