Small yarding boosts prime stock demand

Small yardings caused by the short working week, resulted in firm demand for most types of prime stock at the Addington market yesterday. Prime hogget prices improved $2 to $3 a head and the beef market remained strong. A big yarding of prime lambs sold steadily, but in the store sheep section ewe hoggets were hard to quit. Prime lambs Outside competition helped the prime lamb market remain fully. firm with last week’s sale in spite of another big yarding of lambs. The yarding of 1000, compared with 906 last week, was the biggest of the season. All weights of lambs sold freely to butchers and freezing companies. Values were:— Heavy lambs, to $31.40. Prime sheep . A small yarding helped hogget prices again last week’s drop and return to the level of weeks ago.’Most hogget values were $2 to $3 ahead of last two week’s sale. The old ewe market tended to be weaker than last week’s although heavy ewes sold satisfactorily. Two cows from Glazebrook, Te Pirita, made $738. Prime steers and. heifers to 220 kg sold between 220 c and 230 c a kilogram; from 220 kg to 270 kg, 220 c and 230 c; and more than 270 kg, to 235 c. Values were:— Prime heavy steers, to $BlB. Prime medium steers, $560 to $670. Prime light steers, $456 to $550. Prime heavy heifers, to $578 with odd sales to $834.
