U.S. dollar stronger
PA ‘ Wellington The United States dollar strengthened in New Zealand foreign currency trading yesterday, in line with its stronger tone on Asian markets. Trading closed at 2.9575/90 West German marks as against the opening of 2.9380/ 20, and 242.85/95 yen, against the opening of 241.90/20. Earlier suggestions in the morning in Wellington of a weaker United States dollar in the afternoon were not supported by Asian trading later in the day. Sterling closed at 1.2520/30, against an opening of 1.2600/ The New Zealand dollar closed at $U50.4951/54, after trading in the range of $U50.4149/64. It opened yesterday morning at 0.4960/63. The Reserve Bank of New Zealand midrate closed at 0.4949, 10 points down from its opening. The Australian dollar closed at 0.8622/27, having opened at 0.86222/27.
