‘Insane’ man charged with stabbing dog

PA Auckland A report on a man charged with fatally stabbing a police dog said he was insane but not legally so, his lawyer said. Before Judge Bremner in the District Court at Auckland was Borrodale Harrison, aged 38, unemployed, of One Tree Hill. He pleaded not guilty to a charge that on October 11 he wilfully committed an act of aggravated cruelty by repeatedly stabbing an German Shepherd dog named Sarge which resulted in the death of the dog. Harrison denied four further charges of' unlawfully having a knife with him in the foyer of the Penrose employment office and threatening to do grievous bodily harm to three persons.

He was remanded to January 22 for a defended hearing and in custody until Friday. Mr Aaron Perkins, for Harrison, said a psychiatric report on Harrison stated he

was mentally insane but legally sane and in a position to plead to the charges against him.
