Long prize list in golf

The prize list is long for “The Press” Garden City Golf Classic at the two Harewood courses on November 17 and 18. The first 30 teams are assured of prizes and the list might extend further. Each member of the winning team will receive a Big Softie lounge chair and the four members of the second team will all win a new Spalding golf bag. Four sets of garden furniture will be given to the team which finishes third.

The Mount Cook Line, which sponsors the par-3 seventeenth hole on the old course, will again offer special prizes for the near-est-to-the-pin competition, the main prize being a trip for two to Rotorua.

new sponsor of the putting competition on the practice green and the company has donated a golf bag to the winner.

Entries for “The Press” Garden City Classic close on November 12 and entry forms are available from golf clubs, golf retail shops or from the tournament director, Mr Ra Bate. The entry fee is ?25. The charity tournament will be held for the eighth year at Harewopd and the chosen charity this year is the Salvation Army.

Proceeds from the event will be used to buy three electric wheelchairs to assist severely handicapped residents at the Salvation Army’s Addington, Resthaven and Bethany homes for the elderly.
