Building’s name

Sir, — In “The Press” of October 17, a photograph appeared of Mr Hill, president of the Methodist Church “topping off’ a six-storey building in Cambridge Terrace. The building is being built for the church on land, some of which the church has owned for more than 100 years. Why then call the building after the name of an Americanbased firm of accountants not historically identified with the site? My. understanding, is that the church’s authorities in an undemocratic manner chose not to consult persons with a long association with - the Cambridge Terrace Church. Have those responsible no sense of history or of the fitness of tilings? My maternal great-grand-father was the first minister of the church in 1873 and his son, when minister, also lived in the parsonage on the site. To comply with secular interests in naming the building is surely an undesirable precedent. — Yours, etc., J. R. ALLISON. October 24, 1984.
