SPEEDY CROWN AGAIN LEADING USA SIRE OF TROTTERS Once again in 1984 Speedy Crown continues to dominate the USA siring ranks of the straight out trotters. He is now the sire of over 90 individual sub 2:00 trotters (a world record). He is now widely acclaimed in the USA as the ••Albatross” of the trotting world. As well as being the world's leading sire of 2:00 trolling speed. Speedy Crown is also 1984 s leading stakes winning producing trotting sire in the world. In 1901 and 1982 he headed the USA trotting list with winners totalling SUS 3.9 million and SUS 6.3 million respectively. He also topped the list in 1983 and his winning progeny are set to exceed these records again in 1984. Furthermore his sons such as Speedy Somilli are showing they will become dominant sires like their sire. In New Zealand there are only three stallions by Speedy Crown at stud. Two of these were imported this year by National Bloodstock Corporation. Speedy Summit is an upstanding son of Speedy Crown standing al stud at Frank Bebbington's property at Ashburton (phone Winchmore 603). Considering he was purchased for 5U595.000 as a yearling and that he was genuinely hurt in a training smash, his stud fee of $4OO appears to be excellent value for the breeders of straight out trotters. Should his progeny from this season's mating win both the Rosso Antico Stakes and the New Zealand Trotting Stakes the lucky owner and breeder will receive a total of $200,000. Three trotters have completed this double in the past eight seasons.
