Burglaries thought to be related

Detectives believe that two muffed attempts at breaking into safes in Christchurch offices this week are related.

Burglers used a torch to try to open a safe at W. Toomey, Ltd, in Ferry Road on Wednesday night. Material from the building was used to black out windows while they worked on the safe.

A police spokesman described the job as amateurish, and said it probably involved the same persons who tried unsuccessfully to raid a safe at the State Coal Company in Moorhouse Avenue on Tuesday.
