Restoration continues on the eastern end of the Parthenon on the Acropolis, in Athens. Built between 447 and 438 8.C., the temple was later used as a Christian church and by the Turks as a mosque. It was reduced to ruins in 1687 during a Venetian bombardment. The Parthenon has further deteriorated over the years. Tourists are blamed for some of the damage. A severe smog problem in Athens has also damaged the structure’s surface.
