Mr Ken Poll, the alarms officer of the Fire Services Historical Society, about to place a hose in the locker of the 1939 Ford V 8 fire engine, which has been given to the Ferrymead Historic Park transport museum by Paparua Prison. The engine, which was formally presented to the park by the Minister of Justice, Mr Geoffrey Palmer, has been used in weekly fire drills at Paparua Prison since 1980. It was originally bought from the Upper Hutt Fire Brigade in 1968 by the Justice Department for the a Waipiata Youth Institution in Central Otago.
