PA Wellington New Zealand could riot afford to send one policeman out of the country, to Papua New Guinea or anywhere else, Social Credit’s spokesman on the police, Mr Neil Morrison, has said. A request for police assistance to help fight crime in Papua New Guinea came from that country’s Prime Minister, Mr Somare, in a telephone .call on Thursday to the Prime Minister, Mr Lange. New Zealand had its own problems with crime, Mr Morrison has said. “With our police man-
power already strained to the limit coping with rape and violence problems, we can ill afford to help others.” Mr Morrison said New Zealand's armed services, with their peace-keeping experience gained in the Sinai, would be far better placed to help Mr Somare out of his troubles.
