Wall St ignored in Aust.

NZPA Sydney Australian sharemarkets closed yesterday firm across the boards on improved turnover despite another sharp fall on Wall Street and easier bullion prices.

The all ordinaries index rose 2.5 to 744.4, the all industrials marker 2.8 to 1059.0 and the all resources index 2.3 to 499.9. Brokers said the improved turnover, particularly in late trading, could have been due to overseas investors taking advantage of currency movements. They said the market again ignored Wall Street, which has dropped around 34 points in the last four sessions.

The market leader, BHP,

rose 5c to 10.45 while CSR was steady at 3.14 after being 2c down for most of the day. The banks were firmer with Westpac and National 4c higher at 3.80 and 3.38 and ANZ 3c up at 4.85. Among the miners, Placer jumped 50c to 22.00, EZI 10c to 6.34, Central Norseman
