The day in Parliament
PA Wellington The Longley Adoption Bill and the College House Bill, both private members’ bills, were given second readings when Parliament sat at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. Both bills were referred to the Committee of Selection, to decide the membership of special select committees to consider them.
The Minister of Energy, Mr Tizard, tabled the annual report of Petrocorp. Members moved 10 notices of motion. Ministers answered 17 questions. The Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Mr McLay, successfully sought a snap debate on what he alleged were contradictory and confusing statements by the Prime Minister, Mr Lange, and the Acting Minister of Defence, Mr Colman, about the use of nucleararmed planes in the Triad exercise.
The debate ended when Parliament rose at 5.30 p.m. There was no evening session of the House, as backbench members attended a dinner at which the Governor-General, Sir David Beattie, was host.
