Sheep, wool trust award
A new series of awards is planned from the Vernon Willey charitable trust and the closing date for application for this series is to be November 16.
The Vernon Willey trust was established in New Zealand by the late Right Honourable Lord Barnby (Francis Vernon Willey) who appointed the South British Guardian Trust as trusteee. Following the merger of the South British Guardian and the New Zealand Insurance, Ltd, Trust Department, the duties of the trustee are now vested in the New Zealand Guardian Trust Company, Ltd. _
Lord Barnby nominated an advisory committee to decide upon the disbursement of the trust income. In terms of its discretion under the trust deed, the committee has decided to concentrate on awards which would stimulate new development to promote the sheep and wool industry in New Zealand.
Applicants for financial grants will need to satisfy the committee that their activities are likely to prove of general public benefit. The recipient’s work may lie within either academic or commerial aspects of the sheep and wool industry. The results of the research
or studies are expected to be covered by material suitable for publication in recognised scientific or technical journals.
The importance of the sheep and wool industry in the framework of the national prosperity of New Zealand is clearly recognised in these awards and effective use of the grants should encourage progressive leadership and inquiry in the industry to the considerable advantage of all New Zealanders.
Application forms are availanble from the New Zealand Guardian Trust Company in Christchurch.
