Mr Trick takes time honours

Special correspondent Palmerston North Mr Trick took the honours in training at Awapuni yesterday morning. The laststart Fielding winner galloped in his best style in preparation for the Motorcorp Handicap at tomorrow’s Marton meeting.? Mr Trick won over 2000 m at Fielding. He beat Rose and Thistle over 2200 m in Brisbane earlier this year so there is every reason to expect him to master the longer distance in the first leg of the T.A.B. double. Work was done on the course proper, which was only on the easy side. If there is no rain before Saturday the Awapuni track should be close to perfect for Marton’s big day.

Mr Trick ran 1000 m impressively in Imin 7s, the last 600 m in 38s. He has not left an oat since Fielding and must be in with a winning chance. Under the Clock and Bidston Hill ran 1200 m together in Imin 19.65, the final 600 m in 39.65. Under the Clock is well suited by the Honda Metric Mile distance and looks fit for a big effort.

Commissionaire went sweetly over 1000 m in Imin 6s, the last 600 m in 38s. He looks a picture and is continuing his preparation for

the Perry Dines Stakes at New Plymouth. Fantastic looked fit galloping 1200 m in Imin 19.65, the last 600 m in 38s. He is a big chance in the Metric Mile tomorrow.

Skybird, which could go a bold race fresh in the Honda Dealers, ran 800 m in 50.65, the last 600 m in 37.65. He has been most impressive in training. Cumberland hit out impressively over 800 m in 49.65, the last 600 m in 36.65. He is likely to step out at Waverley next Wednesday. Flying Tui completed 1200 m in Imin 20.45, the last 600 m in 39.45. He has form for the Metric Mile though rain would help his chances. Gunner Red and Silverstyle worked well over 800 m in 525, the final 600 m in 38s. Silverstyle is smart and has a chance against the three-year-olds tomorrow. Golden Sabre ran the last 800 m in his work in 565, the last 600 m in 41.45, while Wellson and Proud Seal took 52s for 800 m, the final 600 m in 395. Wellson is coming along nicely. Nalu took imin 20.5 s for an even gallop over 1200 m, the final 600 m in 38.55. She is fit for tomorrow but rain would help her.
