Record run from Renner

NZPA-Reuter Koblenz Peter Renner set a New Zealand record when he finished third in the 3000 m steeplechase at an international meeting yesterday.

Renner’s time of Bmin 14.05 s broke the previous national record of 8:18.12s he ran at the Los Angeles Olympic Games. John Walker, of New Zealand, brought the crowd of 22,000, to its feet with a stirring sprint in the straight to finish second behind Britain’s Steve Cram in the mile race. Cram finished in 3:49.65s while the veteran Walker recorded 3:49.735. Ed Moses, of the United States, recorded his 108th successive victory when he ran the fastest time of the year for the 400 m hurdles. His time of 47.32 s gave him a clear victory over the West German, Harold Schmid, the last man to record a victory over the American seven years ago, and was 0.43 of a second inside his Olympic winning time.
