Stewart in last eight
PA Auckland Glenn Stewart, of Auckland, will meet John Miles in one quarter-final of the Yonex men’s singles of the national badminton championships. The other matches are between the top seed Phil Horne (North Shore) and Chris Tapper (Waitemata), Kevin Ross (Wanganui) and the second seed Graeme Robson (Auckland) and the meeting of fourth-seeded Kerrin Harrison (North Shore) and the fifthseed, Jacob van Seim (Waitemata).
A win for Stewart will pitch him into the semi-final against
Horne, who should beat Tapper. Jane Clarke, of Canterbury, was eliminated in the second round of the women’s singles, by the promising Waikato player, Robyn Stephens, 11-9, However, Alison Ross, the other leading Canterbury woman, advanced to the third round with a straight set win over Jane Downs of Waikato. In the men’s doubles second round matches, Canterbury’s Mark Reid and Mark Chambers were beaten by the former internationals, Ross Livingston and Steve Wilson, 15-6, 15-9.
