NZPA Sydney Australian sharemarkets closed easier yesterday in subdued business with traders displaying uncertainty due to a lack of firm signals from abroad. The all ordinaries index fell 3.5 points to 735.7, the all industrials marker rose 0.9 to 1027.1 and the all resources index fell 6.4 to 507.9. National turnover was 29.3 million shares worth ?Aust36.lM with falls outnumbering rises by 204 to 136. Brokers said leading resource issues came under selling pressure while industrial stocks generally held firm. In the metals and golds group, CRA dropped 12c to 5.30, MIM 8c to 2.97, Western Mining 7c to 3.45 and Poseidon and Renison both 5c to 3.20 and 2.85. Aberfoyle, however, rose 10c to 9.60.
