Holiday boom for airline
Air New Zealand’s domestic services are reaping the benefit of a school holiday boom. Passenger numbers out of Christchurch are well up on last year and 19 extra flights have been scheduled to meet the demand. During the first five days of the holidays, the airline carried 12,262 passengers, an increase of about 1000 on the same period last year. Bookings are heaviest at the week-ends. More than
8000 seats have already been sold for flights between Friday and Monday, the end of the primary
school holidays. Seven special Boeing 737 flights from Christchurch have been scheduled for that period. The airline’s Christchurch office expects to handle about the same number of passengers the following week-end as post-primary pupils return home from their holidays.
