Canty wins decisively
PA Gisborne Canterbury continued its good early form in the national men’s hockey championships with a 3-0 win in its second match against Wanganui in the Challenge Shield at Gisborne yesterday. Canterbury led, 2-0, at the interval, but good Wanganui defence in the second spell restricted the scoring. Chris Leslie scored twice, while Canterbury’s player of. the day on Sunday, lan Riach, got the other goal. Hutt Valley had its first win in the grade with a 3-1
victory against South Canterbury. Down 1-0 at halftime, Hutt Valley came back in the second half with goals to Ross Trip (two) and Richard Hines. The defending champion, Auckland, had an impressive 3-0 win against Wellington. Wellington was expected to be Auckland’s toughest opponent in pool A, but it failed to fire against the accomplished Auckland team. In the Newman Trophy, Canterbury B thrashed
