Rebel yell
Unusual sounds (for the Star and Garter Tavern) of Irish traditional and contemporary rebel folk songs, will be performed by the Wellington group, Ourselves Alone, tomorrow and Saturday evenings. Formed late in 1982, the band consists of Catherine Campbell, Therese O’Connell, Maureen Scullion, Vincent Burke, Kevin Molloy, and Nick Swan, and they play guitars, fiddle, bodhran, tin whistles, bones,
and mouth harp. Although the emphasis by the band is on rebel music, Ourselves Alone also perform instrumental brackets and well-known Irish folk songs. The style of the music is also modelled on the traditional Irish pub band, with a strong emphasis on audience participation. And the band takes it name from the English translation of Sinn Fein.
