All Blacks boost Glenmark’s ranks

Glenmark will be at full strength, and this includes the services of its two All Blacks just back from Australia, Robbie Deans and Craig Green, when it meets New Brighton in the towncountry club rugby play-off for the Trusteebank Shield at Denton Oval tonight. The game was postponed from last Wednesday at Glenmark’s request and although the New Brighton coach, Terry Mitchell, said last evening that he was quite happy to give his players time to recover from their gruelling town final against Marist, Glen-

mark is obviously the main beneficiary. Not only does it have Deans and Green back, but it will also have the services of its three other Canterbury representatives, Bruce Deans and Andy and Chris Earl. They were away with Canterbury last week. The Glenmark coach, Mike Croft, said last evening that Green and Robbie Deans, the former coming out from town, had been at training on Monday night and both were keen to play. New Brighton will be without its sole Canterbury representative, Wayne Bur-

leigh, who is recovering from a back injury. His place will be taken by Mark Carrington, but otherwise New Brighton will be at full strength. Both coaches said that they were taking the game seriously, and were intent on ending the season with a win. New Brighton may have a shade more motivation. In 1978, when it last won the town title, it was pushed into a rushed game against Glenmark and with a very depleted side was well beaten.
