Allister Mackie came very close to scoring a home club victory in the Rangiora golf open on Saturday. After 36 holes, the youthful Rangiora player was tied on 149 with the Waitikiri No. 1 and Canterbury match-play champion, Paul Minifie, but the sudden-death play-off was something of an anticlimax. Mackie hit his tee shot out of bounds on the first extra hole and Minifie was untroublfikto win the hole and the chßppionship. igftn Minifie and Mackie had three-over- par rounds of 75 in

the morning and they finished' one stroke better in the after-/ noon. Although conditions were' good, few golfers mastered the’ Rangiora course.
