Alcohol abuse
Sir,—The Alcoholic Liquor Advisory Council’s report released this week (“The Press,” August 14) shows that alcohol abuse costs New Zealanders ?900M every year. A.L.A.C. allocated a little over ?1M for treatment of alcohol abuse in 1983. The discrepancy between these two figures is obvious. It is time we heeded Dr Fraser McDonald’s call for increased funding for treatment of alcohol abuse. — Yours, etc., D. WALES. August 14, 1984.
